It has been more than a year since we met Laura and Peter at the One Fine Day wedding fair in Canberra. Communicating with our couples during the lead up to their wedding helps them feel more comfortable with us, which in turn helps us to photograph real, honest and heartfelt moments. We see our work more as a creative collaboration rather than a job that we’re hired to complete, so we really enjoyed becoming friends with Laura and Peter in the lead up to their wedding. As high school sweet hearts who have been together for 10 years, they would have both been pretty excited when Peter proposed to Laura at the Rockefeller Christmas tree in New York City.

Their Yarralumla Woolshed wedding reception took months of dedicated planning and DIY, and by doing their own styling they were able to create their dream event. Hundreds of fairy lights were hung from the wooden beams inside the woolshed, and homegrown succulents lined the tables as thank you gifts for their guests. The entire wedding was very much a collaborative effort, with family and friends baking the cake and dessert table, and Peter’s Uncle Tony (Fr Frey) conducting the ceremony at his Parish church, Holy Trinity in Curtin. Peter and Laura had their MC organise a guard of honour to throw confetti at their arrival to the reception. They then celebrated the night with live music, dancing and a spit roast buffet style dinner.

Thank you Peter and Laura for inviting us to celebrate with you and photograph your wedding!

The Yarralumla Woolshed is a unique piece of Canberra’s history, which the general public can hire as a venue with a capacity for 200 guests. It’s perfect for a laid-back country vibe, and the great thing about it is you can hold both your ceremony and reception at the one place if you don’t want to travel. Hire costs are pretty reasonable, and last time we checked it was $560 to hire from 9am-2am the following morning. We highly recommend hiring the venue for 1 day either side of your wedding day to allow extra time for set up and pack down. To find out more about the venue you can email this address: yarralumlawoolshed@act.gov.au.
