Imagine a wedding where the bride and groom cater ALL OF THE FOOD for ALL OF THEIR GUESTS. Wouldn’t that be crazy? Imagine them slaving away on the week leading up to the wedding – slow roasting beef for 48 hours, baking *literally* the most delicious potato bake you’ve ever tasted, preparing the most impressive spread of canapes you’ve ever laid eyes on with south coast oysters natural and kilpatrick, prawns and stuffed capsicums among other tasty treats. Then imagine the bar – 10 different types of gin alone, plus whiskeys, liqueurs, and an impressive wine list! Well imagine no more, because chef Travis and now wife Stefanie, owners of Canberra’s catering business Get Lucky asked us to photograph their wedding day.
Not only did they slave away in the kitchen all week, they also decked out their reception space at the Yarralumla Woolshed with tables set for 160 guests. With help from family and friends Stef and Travis completed the space with their elaborate bar, festoon lighting, a dance floor, kids games and even a teepee! They proved to us that if you’ve got a choice, shared meals are the way to go if you want your family and friends to meet each other and have conversation over dinner. Stef and Travis also proved that with a lot of effort, dedication, time and planning, you can pull off a pretty spectacular event!
The Yarralumla Woolshed is a unique piece of Canberra’s history, which the general public can hire as a venue with a capacity for 200 guests. It’s perfect for a laid-back country vibe, and the great thing about it is you can hold both your ceremony and reception at the one place if you don’t want to travel. Hire costs are pretty reasonable, and last time we checked it was $560 to hire from 9am-2am the following morning. We highly recommend hiring the venue for 1 day either side of your wedding day to allow extra time for set up and pack down.
